The TCRH Mosbach is an official training site of the American Heart Association (AHA).
Heart disease – a life of uncertainty
Before the American Heart Association existed, people with heart disease either had to end their lives on bed rest or were doomed to die.
Founding of the American Heart Association
However, a handful of pioneering doctors and social workers believed that it did not have to be this way. They conducted studies to learn more about heart disease. On June 10, 1924, they met in Chicago to form the American Heart Association, believing that scientific research could pave the way to better treatment, prevention and ultimately a cure. The early American Heart Association enlisted the help of thousands of doctors and scientists.
“We lived in a time of almost unbelievable ignorance about heart disease,” said Paul Dudley White, one of six cardiologists who founded the organization.
Professionalization of the association
In 1948, the association reorganized and transformed from a professional scientific society to a nationwide voluntary health organization composed of scientists and lay volunteers and supported by professional staff.
Since then, the AHA's size and influence - nationally and internationally - has rapidly expanded to an organization of more than 33 million volunteers and supporters committed to improving heart health and reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke insert.
